Patient information
What is it?
A comprehensive eye exam is a complete medical evaluation that assesses visual acuity, your prescription, eye pressure, the front of the eye and the retina. Unlike an optical store check, it is performed by a specialist physician who can detect and treat eye disease.
Symptoms & warning signs
- Blurred vision at distance or up close
- Frequent headaches when reading or using screens
- Red eye, dryness or persistent itching
- Over 40 with no exam in the past year
- Diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of glaucoma
How is it diagnosed?
It includes a medical history, measurement of visual acuity and prescription, tonometry (eye pressure), slit-lamp evaluation and a retinal exam. When needed, it is complemented with specific cornea, retina or optic-nerve studies.
When is treatment recommended?
A yearly exam is recommended from age 40, and at any age if you have symptoms, diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of eye disease. Children should also be checked before starting school. Ideal to schedule during your stay in Cancún.
What is the procedure like?
The visit takes about 40–60 minutes and is performed directly by Dr. Flores. At the end you receive a clear diagnosis, your glasses prescription if you need one, and a treatment or follow-up plan explained honestly and without jargon.
- A complete exam performed by the specialist, not by technicians
- Preventive detection of cataract, glaucoma and retinal damage
- An accurate glasses prescription
- A clear diagnosis and an honest treatment plan
Recovery
If your pupils are dilated, your vision will be blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours, so coming with someone is recommended. Otherwise, you can resume your activities right away.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an optical store and an ophthalmologist?
An optical store fits glasses. A physician ophthalmologist also examines the full health of the eye — pressure, retina, cornea and optic nerve — and can diagnose and treat disease before it causes irreversible damage.
Do I need an appointment or do you see same-day patients?
We see patients by appointment so each one gets the time they need. Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm the next available time; emergencies are evaluated the same day.
Will you give me a written quote?
Yes. You will receive a clear, written quote for the exam and any recommended treatment, with no surprises. We work on a reimbursement basis with major medical insurers.
